Abstract :
The present study investigated occupational health problems among beedi rollers at of Tenkasi municipality at Tirunelveli District. The study interviewed 122 beedi rollers personally and by questionnaire. It is found that most of the respondents belong to the poor socioeconomic status. Among the reported 80% of them have hand ache, 41% hip pain, asthma, wheezing and eye problem. Many people reported coughing and stomach pain. Most of the respondents (76%) belong to middle class and they earn Rs 1000-2000/month and 36% were illiterate. Beedi workers welfare fund dispensary data also revealed that they are prone to respiratory, gastrointestinal problems.
